Homeworld 3 is a 3d RTS that doesn't care if you can wrap your head around 3 dimensions.

Lemme 'splain.

You can order your units around the "map" in 3 dimensions, and give them very specific orders about where you want them to park. While the movement tool isn't incredibly easy to use, it's not awful. But you'll probably never have to do that. If you want your interceptor squadron to go attack those bombers, you click on the bombers and get a good visual feedback that you have indeed clicked on the hotspot, so you know your interceptors are on their way to the target.

How does Homeworld 3 stack-up to Homeworld and Homeworld 2? It is definitely an improvement over Homeworld. Everything just works better, and of course the graphics are an improvement. For me, Homeworld 2 is the best in the series. In HW and HW 3, when I click the button to build a scout fighter, my mothership queues-up one scout fighter to build. In HW2, when I click the same button, it builds one squadron. That made things *much* easier to interact with, made it easier to build battle groups, and just made the UI easier to use. Because seriously: why would you ever need to build one bomber? If you need one, you need a squadron. So when I click "build bomber," build a useful number. If they had kept that little nicety in HW3, I would call this the best game in the series.

That being said: if you like the Homeworld games, this is another one and you will probably like it. As far as I can tell, if you've played either of the previous games, you should be able to jump right into Homeworld 3 without needing to play the tutorial. Like the first two games, the first mission includes a completely adequate tutorial.

if you get it cheap it’s ok, otherwise I woud not bother.

The game does not manage to give you cravings for more.

As others say:
+ beautifull graphic
+ great soundtrack
- bad story writting
- one direction play
- bad AI
- bad usage of space
- no tactical control of units

Older titles are far superior in gameplay and storytelling.

I would recommend to play EVO complex mod for HW1/2 remastered instead.

Get it cheap, to see for yourself, otherwise maybe wait for mooders to come up with something better.

If you are a Homeworld fan you will be disapointed by the story and game mechanics.

This game does not deserve this negativity. This is clearly not a bad game.
It deserves a good 7 out of 10.
Gearbox used a bad strategy in order to make a profit, and they paid the price for it.

But the game is, according to me, a good successor to the Homeworld franchise. Yes, it is not as good as the old ones, but it succeeds in providing what Homeworld's games ask. Enjoyable campaign (A little bit short), strategy, fleet managment, tactics, beautiful landscape.

The gameplay works well, the new feature allowing you to go inside buildings/wrecks/etc is really a good feature (maybe not enough used but at least the game do not force you to use it).

There are plenty of units to play with. AI was not hard to fight, but I didn't played in hard difficulty, so it was what I was expecting. The new gamemode seems interesting and adds some refreshing to the franchise. OK, this is not THE thing that will make you buy the game, but at least it is an appreciative addition to the game.

I really appreciate playing it, and I'm sad to see its reputation now.

If you buy it when it's low in price, you will not be disappointed. Trust me.
