Importing SFM models into Maya or another 3D modeling software? Solved
Hey there. I just downloaded a free 30 day trial of Maya. I wanted to know if it was possible to import a model from SFM into Maya, so I can change it up. I'm trying to give Miss Pauling a formal dress/steampunk outfit to go with the rest of the set, as well as edit the model to be more like the one in the offical comics.

I figured that, since I taught myself SFM, I could probably learn Maya. I dunno, worth a shot, right? Anyway, how would I go about importing an SFM model into Maya? Is tehre a tutorial out there somewhere?

Also, if you have any suggestions on the software I should use (as in, instead of Maya), I'd be glad to hear it. 3D models are what I want to do with my life, so any tips help. Thanks!

I personally have never done this before, but you will need a decompiler that works for SFM such as mdldecompiler to change the models from mdl to smd format (but I dunno which version) ... your then gonna need the SMD exporter/importer plugin for maya ... I personally use Blender for modeling stuff and you can download it for free and it also has smd plugin.
I know there are a bunch of tutorials on how to do this, but here is one I quickly searched up on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOZaP4XZ0PE&feature=youtu.be
Awesome! Thank you very much. I'll try out Blender; seems like a lot of people used it for the Sims and other games as well.
Awesome, thanks!
