Either way MP4 looks bad. Too dark. The best way to export good looking videos is to export it as an image sequence and put it back into a video with a program like VirtualDub.
Sorry about that Chief!!
I just uninstall QuickTime and sure enough, my ability to create MP4s in SFM went away.
Like I always say - A day without learning something new is a wasted day.
Thanks for bringing me back to reality Connected (and all you other ppl that kept telling me that QuickTime was required for the codec to work!!)
I guess I had better reinstall it now - (Wow, an apple product that is actually useful - Doh!!!)
I just reinstalled the latest QuickTime (close all programs that need to access it before you install) and SFM automatically found the mp4 codec and made it available for me to render in.
@ R234,
Sometime it is good to do as you say, you can use some software to actually clean up the rendered sequences in a composite editor, however, I (personally) prefer to allow SFM to produce my stuff because the audio stays in sync and framedropping issues are taken care of automatically. Sometimes, these are problems when you start rending video using 3rd party tools and add picture sequences and audio together. I haven't used VitualDub in a couple of years, so I don't know if it has issues with these items or not.
But for making each individual part, as far as I can tell the sound stays in sync. That's with videos rendered in 30 fps by the way, I despise that archaic 24 fps Hollywood still clings to.
Seriously though, these may help you

There may be some setting in the Nvidia software somewhere that you may have to tweak manually, if what I've read here is what I think it's saying. Sorry I don't know the product well enough to say where that might be.
Anyway. When in your SFM project, go to "File" dropdown menu, Export > Movie, and there should be a text reading "Install Quicktime dor more video formats" and a link to Quicktime's download.
A friendly tip: use image sequence instead. Quicktime is sh*te.
