SFM not detecting Quicktime
Hello,
I have managed to make a movie, but it is exporting as a .avi file format poorly. I would like to export it as a .MP4 file format. I have downloaded Quicktime, but SFM does not seem to recognize it, telling me to download Quicktime to export in more file formats besides .avi. Does anyone know how to correct this?

Why are you using quicktime? Follow this straight from SFM

your video doesn't show how to get quicktime to be recognized in SFM. Quicktime is needed for mp4.

Wasn't Quicktime required only for MOVs?

Either way MP4 looks bad. Too dark. The best way to export good looking videos is to export it as an image sequence and put it back into a video with a program like VirtualDub.

Well, Blow me down, yuk yuk yuk yuk... I had know idea QuickTime was adding the codec for MP4 to Steam, I must have had QuickTime already installed before I installed SFM...

Sorry about that Chief!!

I just uninstall QuickTime and sure enough, my ability to create MP4s in SFM went away.

Like I always say - A day without learning something new is a wasted day.

Thanks for bringing me back to reality Connected (and all you other ppl that kept telling me that QuickTime was required for the codec to work!!)

I guess I had better reinstall it now - (Wow, an apple product that is actually useful - Doh!!!)

@ Connected,

I just reinstalled the latest QuickTime (close all programs that need to access it before you install) and SFM automatically found the mp4 codec and made it available for me to render in.

@ R234,

Sometime it is good to do as you say, you can use some software to actually clean up the rendered sequences in a composite editor, however, I (personally) prefer to allow SFM to produce my stuff because the audio stays in sync and framedropping issues are taken care of automatically. Sometimes, these are problems when you start rending video using 3rd party tools and add picture sequences and audio together. I haven't used VitualDub in a couple of years, so I don't know if it has issues with these items or not.

Using it to rerender image sequences into a video usually works flawlessly, if you set the framerate right of course. It tends however to desync a bit if you use it to mend a few videos together. If you watch Rise of the Epic Scout on Youtube, you might notice the sound starts being a bit off towards the middle, and more so at the very end, where the RED Scout gets squished. That's because the whole thing is in five parts, and every time it switches to the next it seems the audio skips a frame or two...

But for making each individual part, as far as I can tell the sound stays in sync. That's with videos rendered in 30 fps by the way, I despise that archaic 24 fps Hollywood still clings to.

Sorry guys, I kinda abandoned this topic because my update to my NVIDIA driver that also made an ugly white line go away fixed this issue. I have no idea why, but the white line is now back. I don't know yet whether this is affecting my abiltiy to export Quicktime movies.

And you wonder why I choose AMD products... lol

Seriously though, these may help you

There may be some setting in the Nvidia software somewhere that you may have to tweak manually, if what I've read here is what I think it's saying. Sorry I don't know the product well enough to say where that might be.

I am having the same problem, I installed QuickTime, yet Source Filmmaker refuses to recognize my installation. Can anybody give me a fix for this?

When is the last time that you Re-validated your cache file and rebooted your computer. (Might not fix the situation, but worth a shot)

I restarted my computer and Source Filmmaker now recognizes QuickTime, thanks for the suggestion.
Yea I had this exact same problem. After I installed Quicktime I just restarted after reading a few posts on this thread and it exported in an MP4 format

I know this post is old but still. I've restarted the computer, I've even un and re installed both applications to no effect, ALL I have is .AVI as an option, any other suggestions out there?

How do you download QuickTime?
Opel Manta 400 Apr 24, 2016 @ 5:24am
Why did you necro this thread

Anyway. When in your SFM project, go to "File" dropdown menu, Export > Movie, and there should be a text reading "Install Quicktime dor more video formats" and a link to Quicktime's download.

A friendly tip: use image sequence instead. Quicktime is sh*te.
