Select Windows, Particle Editor tool.
When Loaded
File, open and search for particle files in other folders,
For example Use the Up Folder button to get to the Game folder, then select TF/Particles.
You can then select from the pcf files there.
Open one of them and you'll get windows showing what the effects in the file look like. When you find the particular effect you are looking for REMEMBER which file it was in and the name of the particle system.
I selected ...sfm/game/tf/particles/buildingdamage.pcf, The name of the effect I want is buildingdamage_dispenser_fire0
I now select Tools Return to SFM
In the animation editor I select Create animation set for new particle system
I click the browse button and point to the particle file. Once that is loaded I select the name of the particle in the Particle System Definition box. Set my start time, emission duration and Particle system lifetime and click ok. The Particle system will spawn in front of the active camera. Select it in the animation editor (ensure your in motion edit mode) and move it to where you want it.
It may be invisible to start, move your playhead off the clip and then back onto the clip and it should become visible at the point in the clip you told it to start.
Unusuals are In the Items.pcf
