In the record dialog, uncheck everything but the strictest minimum necessary. Most often, that's just "Players", nothing else (make sure you have "View From Player" checked though, if you want to see what you're doing).
If you want the props to show up in your movie, just right click a viewport and check "Draw Game Entities" > "Other Entities".
To fix character weapons, find their models in the Element Viewer and delete them. This is done by right clicking the active shot, and choosing "Show in Element Viewer". From there, expand scene > children > take{#} > children > player_{name} > children > player_{name}_World Models > children. Delete everything in here but the class model (so, if you're a Scout, leave only player/hwm/scout_GameModel). You can then import a new weapon model, and lock it to the character's weapon bone. This one'll have proper lighting.
And if I had one last piece of advice for you, it'd be to not rely on game mode to much. SFM is meant to make movies, not TF2 gameplay videos.
To your advice, I'm aware of that and usually don't use recording. But I wanted to recreate something silly that happened to me for once(yet, with some extra animation ofc). And some background fighting stuff would be quite the hassle to animate manually.
Also, recording used to work fine for me, so I was wondering why SFM broke itself again, heh.
Anyways, just thanks. :>
