open Steam\steamapps\SFM\and put the files from the folders into the target folder.
example is the file you downloaded open "models" and open "models" in sfm and drag the files in. do the same with materials.

This is one thing you can try... Take your usermod folder and move it someplace else. Validate the cache and restart SFM, make sure it loads and is stable (this will create a new usermod and gameinfo.txt file as if SFM was just installed). Then one by one, move your custom stuff back into usermod until it starts crashing again. This will tell you what is causing the crash.
