Custom Sound File Not Working
I'm trying to get this sound file to cooperate, but nothing I do works.

I took a 12-second MP3 into Audacity, converted it to a WAV format at 44100Hz at 16-Bit PCM, and it plays perfectly in VCL. It's only 2 megabytes in size, too, so size isn't an issue.

I right-click on the Dialog bar and hit "Add Clip to Track", but when I find my file in the folder, not only does the sound not play as a preview when selected, but when I place it in the Dialog bar it's zero seconds long!

Even selecting the file in the Element Viewer and expanding it doesn't make it play. What am I doing wrong? I've looked at several other tutorials and troubleshoots and still have no idea how to fix this. Can anyone help me?

Reexport the converted wav file as a Microsoft pcm wav. I've had this happen a couple of times using Audacity. I had to convert the mp3 to wav, then do the process on the wav file to make it work.
When I tried to add a custom sound, I named it Drøggs (That's the way you say drugs with Norwegian letters, it was pretty weird), the ø wasnt showing up when I tried to play the sound. Then I renamed it and imported it again. Now it worked. If the soundfile's name got other than English letters that might be the case, but you should try re-importing it anyways

It doesn't have any letters like that, but it does have underscores in the name. I'll remove 'em and see if that works.

Sheesh, SFM can be so damn fussy sometimes.
I know, right?

Okay I just did that, and it works!

You'd think there'd be a window or something that pops up to let you know that wouldn't work.
Glad it worked :)

Wow, That's a new one... I'll have to check a few things out here...

Wow... That's HUGE. Thanks Frozen and Krakus. Good finds. I had pretty much given up on external sounds (I had just been doing all of my audio in Premiere) because of this exciting little bug. Great find.

Oddly enough I have custom audio with underscores in their names, and they work fine. Even more odd, some time ago I recorded the "woot" sound from NOPE.AVI for use in my movie, and I called it woot.wav. Whatever I did it wouldn't work. Then I renamed it swootch.wav, and just like that, it started working. I was like "Really? REALLY SFM?? Ugh..."

Woot is a very evil word on other planets, you know.

Lol. More mysteries of SFM. I'll add it to the list, right under "what the hell is moon.vtf?"
