i cant get it working

everytime i try to get sfm running its up there for like 5 seconds then it closes automatically can someone tell me why it wont work on my laptop

for a weird reason even when i do it on sdk it wont work only things that do is the hammer and modle veiwer

I'm suspecting this is another one of those dual graphic laptops, one with Intel HD3000 and a Nvidia interface. Most Toshibas (toshibi, toshibaisis... can never get the plural of that) come wrapped that way now. Probably a 640M at that. And we've all seen the run around those things give us...

Officially, brand names are to be used as adjectives exclusively, so cannot be used in the plural or possessive forms on their own. The proper answer would therefore be "Toshiba computers" or "Toshiba laptops".

Unofficially though, the general consensus in spoken language is to add "s" or "es" as per usual (Toshibas), unless it ends up sounding awkward (e.g. Asuses, Volkswagenses).

I just recently fixed a problem exactly like this for another SFM user. The person was running a dual graphic laptop with windows 8. It turns out a 'feature' called secure boot is to blame, for some reason it prevents SFM (or any other source engine game) from properly utilizing the higher end card in the dual graphic card combo. Simply disabling secure boot fixes the issue. One way to check if SFM is using the intel or nvidia card is to type mat_info in the console and checking to see whether intel or nvidia is mentioned as the primary graphics adapter.
