Source Filmmaker

Studiomdl location?
I've been looking to compile a model that I'm exporting to source, but I can't seem to find studiomdl anywhere. I have the SMD and the QC already, but studiomdl is nowhere to be found.

That's odd-- it isn't there. I did a search of my wholecomputer, and it appears that NONE of my Source SDK versions have Studiomdl either. It is gone from my computer. I think my antivirus may have played a part in this...

Nothing showed up in the logs. I verified my Source SDK cache to see if it would pop up there, but "all files were successfully validated." Has anyone else been having this problem?

Is the bat file there for studiomdl?

No trace of anything related to studiomdl.

EDIT- Wait! I think I found it. The full system search didn't pick it up for some reason, no idea why...

Because you shouldn't trust searching for files in Windows Explorer. Use Notepad++ instead.

Yeah, the search engine in Windows (all versions) SUX... I've tried to find various things I know are on the computer and it comes back, Not Found. I always just go to the folders I think the files are in and search by scrolling down the page. Or I open a command prompt and do a DIR /s command off of the C:\ drive.

Ah, alright. I have another problem, however... when the model is compiled, the MDL is placed correctly but the vtx files are being written to a sourcemod path. I am using SFM's studiomdl.

all the times i've used it using the sfm studiomdl it placed them in the usermod folder.

I think it does it by default, not sure how to change it. may be dependant on the location of the studiomdl.

Oddd. It's in SourceFilmmaker/game/bin, not sure what would make it write to a sourcemod...

I think that if you are dropping your qc on to the studiomdl.bat file and your game configurations are not set to SFM-Usermod then this line in the bat file ("%VPROJECT%\..\bin\studiomdl.exe" -verbose -game "%VPROJECT%" %*) is reading your SYSTEM Environment Variables for steam and placing files where it thinks it need to.

3 things you can do here are - 1) Open the SFM SDK and reset your game configurations, 2) Hard Code the bat file to always look in the -game {path to}\sourcefilmmaker\usermod or 3 Manually change the System Steam variables via the System set up in Windows.

Does that sound right Vintage?? I don't use the manual bat process now that I use Blender Source Tools to do the compile of ANY model for me...

Yes, that sounds right, however I always just execute StudioMDL manually, that being from Source FilmMaker to Source FilmMaker's usermod, not caring about environment variables.

Thanks, now it's working properly :)
