How to I make shiny textures?
I want to change Sonic's sneakers so they look really shiny a la Sonic '06. Is there any way I can do that?

I tried using envmap for my models and they turned out looking like they'd been covered in grease. Envmap only really works on chrome-like objects.
Try using phong instead: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/$phong

You have to set the envmap settings correctly for the effect you want. Sonic's shoes in Sonic '06 are clearly envmapped, not just phong'd. Just tone the envmap down and you'll get a similar look.

Plus, SFM has a common bug that makes envmap look way too shiny on some objects when they are first imported. Saving and restarting SFM usually fixes it.
