How do I get rid of this weird reverb effect?
Whenever I add a sound clip into the scene, it creates an echo that I don't want. I want to get rid of it.

Either right-click the sound clip, choose "Show in Element Viewer" > "Sound", and add a # in front of the filename, or load the "dark_room.bsp" or "black_void.bsp" maps.

The Element Viewer option removes echoing from all maps, but it has to be done for every individual sound clip (even multiple sound clips for the same sound file).

The map option should remove echoing from all sounds, but it only works if you render the sound from one of those maps (which shouldn't be a problem if you already use image sequences; you can easily combine the sound from one map with images from another map), and it doesn't remove echoing when you're working on the session in another map.

Valve needs to make a sound source feature some time.

or you could just save 10 minutes and put the audio file in the music tab instead of dialogue

Placing sound clips in the "Music" track still makes it reverb.

I'm actually confused as to why the echo's causing trouble. I believe the echo is dependant on your camera's location and environment, and the echo's meant to optimise the environment.

Whelp. What else could we do? It's a game engine.

I can confirm it is dependent on the camera's position. It can be a bit buggy when using two viewports at once though.
Somebody needs to find a way to make a mod for source filmmaker that fixes, or at least adds workarounds for, some of the random problems it has, like the reverb. Even if somebody wrote a script that automatically put the pound sign in front of all your sounds files to save a few minutes of tedious work; I know that I would use it.

Does such a thing already exist?

I can double confirm, just tested it. I have a pyro on blue's last point of hydro. looking right at him , his voice lines echo. If I move the camera into the vent passage in the roof, the echo stops. since that area of the map was really open, I assume the map makers gave it the echo.

I'm from the future. No, no it doesn't. Hashtag isn't working right now for some damned reason, either. Wish Valve didn't abandon this.
