The down side would be that if you needed a model from folder X, you'd have to go back into the gameinfo and add a search path for folder X.
Just a thought.
This MAY work, I kind of do this when I'm working with weird models...
Set up a game folders in your gameinfo.txt file, have your model folders in the Game folder but as different folder names than sepcified in the gameinfo.txt file. When you want a model out of one of those folders you rename the folder to one that SFM knows about and press rescan.
For example, I have my CS:GO stuff in a folder called CS:GOStuff under the game folder
I have a search path in my gameinfo.txt file labled Game CS:GO
When I load SFM, it caches the the folder Store CS:GO and when I browser models it doesn't see my CS:GOStuff folder.
Now I need a partisan out of the CS:GOStuff. I rename the folder to CS:GO and press rescan when I go to load a model. Now SFM will find the CS:GO stuff because the CS:GO path was precached.
The thing is, that as you rename folders to load hidden model your model count will increase but not until you've renamed the folder. And once added to a project, you can't remove it or your model that you spawned from it will disappear.
