(Closed) Is there a way to make particle effects dimmed by toneMapScale brighter?
Just asking because I can't seem to figure out if its possible or not. :dswilson:

I usually just copy and paste the particle effect in the same spot. Makes it look brighter the more you paste.

In this case it just makes it look more opaque, not brighter.

Surely theres some way if I mess with the particle's system definitions.

If there is a setting somewhere in the Element Viewer, it could be Color Random. You could try to increase the color's brightness but nothing much could be done if your tonemapscale is at its dimmest.

I just discovered that and tried it. It helped in the slightest.

If you want a "permanent" solution for the exact toneMapScale you use, divide 1 by the toneMapScale (the one shown in the Element Viewer, not the animationset editor, as the animationset editor divides it by 10 or so), and add the result as $Color X in the material(s) of the particle(s).

For instance, with a toneMapScale of .1 (which the animationset editor refers to as close to .01), you should add $Color 10 to the material(s), as 1/.1=10.

Alright... So I need to place a $Color 20 somewhere in there. But could you specify where?

Is it in M_Brazier_Flame - ParticleSystem Definition - Material? Because I placed it in there and now my particle effect is now more cubed than minecraft.

In the material. The VMT file located somewhere in your Source FilmMaker installation directory.

Great, now I'm starting to feel like an idiot. I've tried putting it in the files name, everything came up as purple and black. Then I removed that and put it in the VMT file and I'm not seeing any changes.

Time to retrace my steps. This will take a while.

What, is it a gag?

In which case, if it is, shame on thee, Vintage.

Well screw this, I'm off to export the ♥♥♥♥ like it is so I can actually do something later today.

If $Color is not supported by the shader used by the material, I apologize, as I'm used to $Color being supported for basically every material I ever touch (except eye materials).

Edit: Though, could I see the contents of the VMT file when $Color 20 was/is in it?

It was worth a shot.

I consider this discussion closed now.
