gameinfo.txt not found!?! [SOLVED]
Everytime I try to load SFM I keep getting the same error message:

"Unable to find gameinfo.txt. Solutions:

1. Read https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Gameinfo.txt
2. Run vconfig to specify which game you're working on.
3 Add -game <path> on the command line where <path> is the directory that gameinfo.txt is in."

I only know BASIC Java code so I can pretty much guess that #3 is something to do with a "Path Finder" code, but even then I looked inside the gameinfo.txt file (Yes it IS there in usermod! I may be a self training amature programmer but I'm not THAT dumb!) I can't figure out which or where the command line is? If it's even refering to inside the file at all!

I can't find "vconfig" ANYWHERE in the Steam or SFM files so I'm pretty much stumped there, and if I go to said Wiki page i'm pretty sure it's gonna talk alot about stuff I don't understand.

I've tried Re-installing SFM, going into SDK and doing the config reset thing then validating, I cross referenced and replaced the code in the gameinfo.txt to what it's supposed to be! (According to other discussions on this topic) But nothing worked!

I checked the minimum requirements and I'm well within them!

I really need help with this! Either this is some REALLLLLY big bug or there's something else I can try that I haven't seen! Eithr way... OH GOD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Be sure gameinfo.txt is inside \Source Filmmaker\usermod\. Also be sure sfm.exe is in \Source Filmmaker\.

Try running SFM through its SDK. If it doesn't work, at least you get the game configuration settings right there for you to adjust.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

If you have done that as you say you have, either it works, you forgot to reboot, or something is seriously wrong, of which I would first assume the second option. You didn't say you rebooted.

Ah... Well... hmm... I'll give that a try!

The following is for Advanced USERS - don't try the SKIP THIS PART if you're unsure of what you are doing when it comes to playing with system environment variables,

If rebooting didn't work, Use the Delete Game Configurations option then Remove Environmental Variables in the SFM SDK.

(IF UNSURE, SKIP THIS PART)

Open your System Control panel (Right click the Windows Start button and select System) then click Advanced System Settings. Click the Environment Variables button and make sure ALL Valve related variables have been deleted. Careful not to delete non-Valve related stuff.

(CONTINUE HERE IF YOU SKIPPED THE ABOVE)

REBOOT the machine and

launch the SFM SDK again. Click Reset Game Configuration and click OK on the prompts. Retry SFM.

If you've done the above then you need to reboot your computer. Then things should be working just fine. Also, Cheers from across the pond!

I am having the EXACT same issue, except I'm not well informed about coding that much. I want to create animations, but that popup ALWAYS POPS UP! Did you ever figure out how to get it to work??

Well, the steps I've listed earlier are possibly wrong... But these steps are (supposed to) not (be) wrong:

Right-click Source FilmMaker in your Steam library, choose "Launch SDK", set the drop-down "mod" list thingie to "usermod", and then click "Programs" or "Tools" or something > "Source Filmmaker" within the SDK.

If that does work, but only when launching Source FilmMaker through its SDK, you have to click "Reset Game Configurations" (after setting the drop-down list option to usermod), apply it, and reboot your computer.

If that doesn't work, not even when launching Source FilmMaker through its SDK, you have to right-click Source FilmMaker in your Steam library, and click "Properties" > "Local Files" > "Verify Integrity of Application Cache...", and then wait a long while.
