would it be possible to commission an sfm animation?
I'm good at making posters for sfm but not animating, and some sfm's I'd pay to have done. I have one idea in mind for an sfm that is 4min long. but how much do you guys think it would cost to pay someone to use their creative talent and time in sfm? I imagine quite a lot but try to be fair also.

Also please no hate, I'm just asking.

for a 4 min video? >.>

depending on the nature of the video, that can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months.

For reference, the last vid I did was 5min and took 9 months. though i probably could have done it in 6.

I think the better question would be, how much are you willing to spend? lol

I knew it would take a long time, sfm making in particular and 4 minutes. I'd almost be willing to spend 100$ or more on a video that length but I didn't know if that was reasonable. Because some sfm makers can make their videos within a week's time, just look at sfm be prepared- I think he said it took 2 weeks to make that video?

Anyway; I'd be open to debate on any potential sfm producer, about prices and their video style because I'd also want the video to be smooth and good, and depending on the price, I could pay 300$ maximum for an sfm. (the one i have in particular I had a special occassion in mind and as we all know, when a special occassion comes up, money don't have a limit! :D and by that I mean

I would save up and pay almost any amount of money as long as its fair.

Really depends on the composition of the film. Some films take a lot more work than others. 4 minutes is quite a long animated film, so you'll probably need more than one animator. As for availability of SFM animators, I know there are a few out there but they typically don't see SFM as an actual job. After all, SFM animators are usually community content creators who make films out of passion.

well, some do hope to get a little out of their work, but it is generally only to either continue to fund their passion (get new comps, etc) or are desperate (need money for bills, food, medical, etc).

but yeah, what the video is, and how high of a quality you want will determine the price.

Professional grade, freelance animators generally have a going rate of $100 a second. but that is for flash and such, and doing broadcast quality work, not sfm, using game assets.

those professionals do make use of limited resources though, sfm provides models, and game assets so basically its just a matter of time, and how good the maker is at sfm. Patience is something I'd have so the person could work on it as a side-project, pay half up front, the rest when completed.

as said, depends on the what you want. if its something using only stock characters, maps, etc it would be easier and quicker then if it was say, mostly custom assets. how much action it has, lip sync, if you are ok with 24fps, or want 30 or 60 (high fps can make it harder, especially when rendering and if particles are involved) how many shots, models, etc etc. You'd have to give details.

I am an animator myself, but usually I nearly die when I get to the 2 minute mark. It really depends on what content is in the film, because like what ClinterinoMO just said, 4 minutes is quite long, and if they are good then 2 weeks then hmmm maybe they will be able to complete the film.. because usually editing etc take a long time. For example it took me a week just to get a rough copy of about a minute with lip sync etc.
I'm not trying to be a hater and I know you are not good at animating, but filmmaking is creativity, it's better to show people what you can do, then to tell someone else to do it for you. :). But if you really want someone else to do it, I respect that, but in the end it really depends on how content they have to create, and how much time, and make sure details, map, models, cosmetics etc are accurate and exactly what you want, because if the animator has already animated a few scenes and you just go ahead and tell him/her to change it, it will be very fustrating for them to change it in every shot.

Can a team make a series? I don't have much money...but I'm willing to work with anyone to do something like the boys at Rooster Teeth did with RWBY. I don't have the skills with sfm but I'm willing to pull my weight around and learn. I got a few ideas for a superhero series. I'm currently working on getting a script for it and possibly, models for the characters...as best I can... hopefully
