Can I put a tf2 skin into SFM?
Ive been doing some pictures of my classes. And i have some weapon skins id like to put on my character. There is no model on the workshop of it. So maybe i can put my tf2 skin on it. It makes sense. The skin covers the entire weapon in third person. But i dont know how. Or even if its possible.

If you've made a replacement skin and that skin is carrying the name of the original vtf, yes you can get it into SFM. Create a path in the usermod materials folder that apes the path to the original. For example if the original skin lives in and is tf\materials\models\weapons\c_items\{weaponname.vtf} then your your skin would go into usermod\materials\models\weapons\c_items\{weaponname.vtf} .

The Usermod material will have higher priority than the orginal skin an would be used in SFM. The only downfall is that you can't have the original skin and your skin in the same movie and if you have a project already created using the weapon and its original skin, the next time you load it into SFM it will have your custom skin.

The only way to have a model adopt a new skin and have still be able to use the old skin in the same movie or to create a skin family is to decompile and edit the model.

What do you mean by skin, exactly? Just a replacement texture, or a full replacement model?
