FNAF & SFM...
I'm a fnaf sfm animator. To me, I make decent animations. I also make tf2. This isn't an advert... but who else agrees fnaf has introduced little kids to SFM? I used sfm before fnaf was run over by kids and let's just say, there were no ♥♥♥♥♥♥ sfm animations.
If you're an fnaf animator who:
Doesn't understand the graph editor's basicness
Doesn't know how to add overlays
Doesn't know how to even make a decent SFM with a walking animation, or no falloff so the character doesn't move a little after the keyframe in graph editor...
Just don't use it.
Here's an example of what I call a bad animation:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjTZzJhAxEo
it doesn't even get the fnaf timeline right... XD

The main problem with FNAF and fanart in general:

FNAF is a survival horror game filled with childish elements, and Cawthon (developer) had kept an incredibly unique balance between these two aspects, creating horror and creepiness with very unlikely horror game assets. Outside the game, however, these assets mean something far different from what the game originally showed. This led to the community's fanart being totally irrelevant.

FNAF's limited gameplay and setting affects the tiny portion of fanart that is actually relevant, causing them to be incredibly repetitive. It's hard to keep the forementioned balance from the game while creating an outstanding storyboard. A creative and original concept is one of the most important elements for the production of a film, which is why the earlier FNAF fanarts seemed so much better than the ones now.

About kids, not really sure what they're thinking. Then again, pretty much everything they do is fairly questionable. Not that it's bad to let kids use SFM (some of them may eventually make good animations), but it's their influences from more seasoned animators and their own perception of what they call "hard work", leading to a spammed amount of their "hard work".
Man, if I was to make a fnaf animation I would team up all other games and start a nuclear war aganist the fnaf characters.

That video is like... pretty much every other FNAF SFM I've seen. There's only one FNAF that I found artistic in any way. This one:

I've been using SFM since the initial launch back in 2012, it's already popular among almost all source games especially tf2. Even Gmod community get their hands on it. But I'm kinda agree that SFM has attracted new demographic goutside of source game communities which in case, those little fnaf kiddos. Also, I strongly agree that most fnaf are bland, repetitive and just look like nothing but an animation demos like "Oh good, you made a 15 seconds video of Chica move his arms and body around. Where's the plot?".
Clint's statement really straightforward about this "issue". I mean, look at this forums. I've seen fnaf related post mostly about the map issue almost everyday. Do they have time to refine their SFM skills? That's debatable and I've seen few kiddos ragequit SFM due to their false idea that they can make awesome animation with a snap just because SFM is technically easier than other software.
What I worry the most that the fnaf haters will blame SFM because those videos and eventually bring down its reputation.

Quick! Someone make an epic Dota2 / Half-Life / CS:GO SFM to save the community! :P

That's pretty good, but very short.

Eh...

Also, the very few DOTA2 vids I find seem to be lacking a certain something... I can't quite put my finger on it... maybe lighting, sometimes animation quality... but mostly lighting. I'm expecting a large flood of DOTA2 vids once S2FM gets all its missing parts.

if by "kids" you mean teenagers and 20 somethings...

seriously, the youngest sfm user i've met is 14, and most are late teens and early 20s.

and there is just as much ♥♥♥♥♥♥ tf2/half-life/portal/etc animations as there are fnaf. if not more so.

Yeah but somehow they're drowned out by the fnaf ones, while from TF2 there seem to be a lot of good ones.

I don't exactly know if youtube's giving me these results for SFM because I'm a The Winglet fan (not signed in on this browser though), but http://i.imgur.com/hTwNAU3.png

Followed by tons and tons of crappy fnaf (which continues on page 2, right after James McVinnie's EOTL.

And a L4D2 SFM that's okay but not really the greatest in terms of lighting /animation (and camera field of view is too big). Pretty funny though.

youtube results are based on search/viewing history, view counts, and relevance.

also, have you watched all the fnaf ones? do you know if they are "crappy", or just assuming fnaf = crappy?

the only reason they seem to "drown out" the crappy tf2 ones is because tf2 is much much older, so things have slowed down. keep in mind for a time tf2 was the ONLY thing made with sfm untill other stuff started getting ported over.

I've watched pretty much everything on that list I've taken pictures of. What I mean by crappy: it's like I'm watching a random GMOD (and I've seen some pretty good GMOD videos) with little to no lighting (and sometimes no AO), and/or poor animation movement or lack of plot (note that not all of them break all of these at once). Like I said, I've seen one FNAF video that looks good, but I have yet to find anything else that:
- has good lighting
- has a good plot (even if simple)
- has good camera field of views applied where needed
- has good animation.
- has AO

If the FNAF community has so many 20-something year old fans, why don't more of them make something cool? The Pony fandom seems to have better animators overall from non-source stuff.

I do not hate FNAF itself. Just that people seem to like putting their test videos out there publicly (I hide my test renders and only ask a few people about them to improve) and yeah I'd probably be a bit annoyed because of a flood of TF2 test renders too.
The thing is that some people decide to check out SFM and are most likely to see test renders and say "Meh, this program isn't worth it," before even trying it out.
raptornx01 Jul 4, 2015 @ 1:52pm
chances are anyone looking up sfm stuff is going to be looking at the most popular things. and stuff thats popular is popular for a reason. I doubt most peoples first sfm video is going to be a test render, its going to be something that get lots of views, lots of likes, and is shared around.
