Or if you dont' have the time to practice a lot, cheat a bit by using Motion Capture. That'll do the blunt of the animation, leaving you to just refine it and avoid clipping.
Realism is effectively achieved by hiding what you don't want people to see, and going over what they're seeing until it's smooth. Then again, it's SFM.
