Portal Models Question
Hello, was wondering something. Can I use Portal models, even if I don't own the game? Or do I have to own it to use them? Thanks in advance. I'm getting back into Source, after a long break. :)

Good question. I think you can't get most of the models if you don't have the game, but not necessarily all of them. You see, you can extract from the DLC packs that Valve gave as an update to SFM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUU1Cv8ibjI

Or if you own GMOD, first learn how to convert for SFM and you can use those, too. Or check out the SFM and GMOD Workshop. You are bound to find stuff there. There are some small ones in the TF2 Workshop but you need to take a look, and some creators all for you to download the mod(s). :)

They provided the DLC just so you COULD use them. and you don't have to extract anything. just enable the portal2 pack and let it download. then add the folder to the searchpaths for the gameinfo.txt.

The Portal 2 DLC pack for SFM is free for everyone, even people who don't own Portal 2. It doesn't include the maps, though, which might be a sticking point.

Is it the, "Portal 2 Sixense MotionPack DLC"?

No. Open SFM, Click File > Downloadable Content and there'll be an option to download Portal 2 content. Click it, close SFM and let it download (it's a big file!)

Angry Bees, dont you still have to extract it from the VPK? I know it didnt recognize the files in the VPK unless you extract it. :/

Okay, so I did that, and I closed out of SFM. However, I don't see anywhere it downloading. :/

Okay so, it downloaded. It then told me to launch SDK because there was an error or something? Help :(

Well, what is the error?

it wants you to add the search paths. click sfm in your library, launch the sdk, at the bottom is a option to edit search paths. click it, then check the boxes that are unchecked.
