How do i import Images/Pictures into SFM?
Hi there guys, can someone please explain to me how to import pictures into SFM? I know about the conversion to VTF which i need but i want to know if possible. Thanks! Be detailed because what i've seen from other people is not as detailed and it's confusing if the buttons or something is not there.

You either have to find a model and use the override material command on the $basetexture or create a model that will take your picture.

To be more detailed, You create a texture that is power of 2 based (1024x512, 2048x2048, dimensions are 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, etc) and make a vtf of it and place it in a materials folder SFM knows about. You find a model, like a billboard or a portrait or a painting, etc. You spawn that model then add an override materials to it and send it to the element viewer. You find the texture of the picture and add a String Attribute to that and name it $basetexture. This will turn that material black and purple checker boarded. In the data column beside the new $basetexture attribute you put the path and the filename of the vtf you created and the picture should change to the texture you created.

If you can't find a model suitable for your picture, then you have to create a model for it.

VTF support in GIMP is a separate plug-in: https://github.com/Artfunkel/gimp-vtf/releases
