Source Filmmaker

Question for animators and model creators who do commissions.
I love SFM and I love the possibilities it holds and how many incredible animations I've seen ever since SFM came out (both SFW and NSFW) and I honestly want to know a few things if that's alright:

1. Around how much is the average cost for a SFM model made from scratch based on your rates and those of other model creators you know?

2. How much is the average cost for simple animation loops like an idle/breathing animation, a waving animation, etc. that would be around 1-5 seconds each?

3. I have a blender model that's missing a texture. Is it still possible for this model to be ported to SFM? or does it need that missing texture? If that missing texture is gone forever and impossible to be retrieved, is it possible for someone to create a replacement texture? or is that model now obsolete?

I guess that's all I have to ask for now, but if I have other questions I'll either update this OP or just post it on this thread.

Thanks for reading.

The average cost of available Source FilmMakers is 0.00$, and I don't want that to change. Why should a program used to advertise the developers' games cost money?

I don't think you understood my question so I'll rephrase it (I also edited the OP because I forget to add the word "model" to it....although I DID mention model creators at the end.....)

I just wanted to know how much does an artist charge their client to create a SFM MODEL that can be posed/animated with.

it's possible to create a replacement texture. what's the model? many people here could take a look, see what could be done.

Not a modeller, but I'd imagine it depends on the complexity.

For example, one without eye posing and lip sync rigged up will probably cost less than one that has all that.

here's the model in question (just a link to a gif. but I could find a link to the model file if you'd like):

the missing texture I was told from a friend of mine is the "ruffled" neck piece. it appears solid bright pink when I had blender opened on the model long ago.

luckily this particular model doesn't have eye posing and lip syncing so I think the only portions that really would require model work on this character would be his fingers? though I do wonder if someone out there can also make multiple face textures for this model since it's supposed to be a low-poly megaman legends-esque type of model so there's no eyes/mouth to model but I would like his face to change once in a while.

I'm wondering what the ballpark is for such a commission though so I can prepare, because I have some ideas for some cool things I want to do but it requires animation and for this blender model to be ported to SFM to be part of the magic.

For an original, cartoony model with rig and face flexes, that's about $40-60 based from my friend's advice who is currently working at animation and media company.

That's actually really affordable so thanks for the reply I'm happy to hear it.

I don't have any contact with professionals on the matter, but I have seen people ask much more for modeling from scratch since, as you may know, is a time-consuming process. One such person, I believe a freelancer, accepts $75 to $125 per character depending on complexity.

Thanks for the response! still looks pretty affordable so I'm glad to hear it's not too killer on my wallet.

Now I have to imagine how much it would cost to hire an animator for quick post loops.

There are some freelancers who will also go by (at least) the minimum wages of regular jobs. That's usually a set fee per hour spent on your commission. It may be beneficial to collect some information on that too. :)
