The other thing is that it gives them something of a disrespect for the characters, so they're prepared to release their hard work for people to abuse.
There are actually models that are better again, some of which do things many people don't even realise the Source engine is capable of, but the creators haven't released them, because they don't really want to see their hard work being used for sleaze or crappy memes.
In any case, many NSFW models do come with clothed options that make them entirely usable in SFW projects, so the difference is often pretty moot.
