Missing Graph editor tangent menu question

Good morning everyone.

I have a quick question regarding the graph editor's tangent menu.
On some animations I simply can't see the option to change the tangents (linear, flat, spline etc.) Usually there are some buttons in the center of the graph editor right below the viewport and the the right of the zoom icon, but sometimes they completely disappear. I was in the middle of an animaton and at the beginning I had the option to see the tangents menu, and now it's completely gone. It's not the first time this has happened to me and I have used the menu before so I know I've either done something wrong or accidentally hidden it. Can someone help me?

Try grabbing the top of the graph editor window and dragging it up a little...

If making the timeline/Graph Editor vertically higher doesn't work, try making it horizontally wider.
