If you don't know how to do it, I have this little guide:

Yes I have tried with green screen. I use a map that's an all green (or any color) skybox.
My workflow is: SFM > GIMP > Aseprite > UE4.
In GIMP, I use fuzzy select with an alpha channel on all my layers/frames to delete the green background one layer at a time. Then I make that into a gif animation and put it into aseprite and make the spritesheet from there. It works but if I didn't have to delete the greenscreen on every layer and just have a transparent background right out of SFM that would be mega timesaving. I found that a black background works best because GIMP still leaves alot of green pixels outlining the model when I used a green background which took some extra work
Your guide is very good tho and I saved it for if I need more info on the chroma keying route so thanks for that. I was just hoping to cut down on post processing after SFM is all
