How to create light shafts.
i like how volumetric lights work but is there a way to do it with particles or something?
i need the light shafts to not light the scene.

hard to do with particles. they have no direction they can face. probably easier is using one of those polygon ligthshaft things to fake it.

Yes, but not with the same quality, customization, or shadows. You can, however, set the "intensity" of the light really low (but not completely un-lightening), right-click the "volumetricIntensity" slider, remap it to have a really high max, and drag it all the way up.

There probably exists a particle that could closely resemble lights but there is a way to lessen the lighting effect. I'm not too familiar with lights but it might be by playign with the minDistance and maxDistance values. You can also try experimenting with the linear, quadratic, and constant Attenuation sliders. Your best bet would be to try quadratic or linear Attentuation.
Trust me, once i was pampered in Unreal 4 with the insane realisticness and beautiful work you can compose literally in minutes... it was tough to come back to sfm. But, i could never leave sfm :P

I spotted a few like those burried in the half life folders but they are super buggy and often turn black for no apperant reason when rendering. but im not sure if thats what you're talking about.
