Not able to change volume of an effect in SFM?
I right click on a nearmiss sound effect, and select 'set volume', but then for some reason it's preventing me from typing in the box. I can backspace, just not replace the numbers... help?

Which numbers are you using? If you're using the num-pad, try using the number keys above the letter keys instead.
And are you able to copy numbers and then paste them into the volume amount box?

ah great, now the same thing is happening in other audio clips as well.

I tried both of your suggestions and neither of them seem to work... it should be noted that my keyboard doesn't have a numpad and i was originally using the numbers on top, so i tried a numpad on an on-screen keyboard. unfortunately for naught.

thank you for being here though, I appreciate your help. :)
thoughts?

My thoughts are that I've just tried to set the volume of a sound clip myself, and have been fairly unable to do so. However, also able to. And it does make sense.

The volume is limited to be at least 0.0 and at most 1.0. Any attempts to bring it below 0 or above 1 are just ignored. This means that it basically just ignores if you press 5 or something, unless the volume starts with "0.".

So, try to select the whole volume number, then press 0 followed by . (a dot/period) (or followed by , (a comma), depending on your region?), and then you should be able to type whatever volume you want (as long as it's not less than 0 or more than 1).

Ohh, yeah, that seems to be working. But does that mean I couldn't boost the volume of the effect to anything past 100%?

Technically no, but you can always add more instances of the same sound effect to boost the volume. Two copies of a sound effect = 200% volume.

ey, nice! that does it. thanks guys! :D

using two copies of it though, they seem to not want to line up exactly. I'm trying to alt+shift and drag them side to side, but they don't want to snap to the same starting position. maybe I'm doing it wrong?

I don't remember what Alt+Shift does, but if I remember it right, it's for very precise movements in the timeline. Much more precise than you're trying to go for here.

Make sure that "frame snapping" is enabled, then drag one of the sound clips, and then just drag the other sound clip to start at the same frame.

Ok. i should say that I'm very new to sfm in general, and have just recently been watching the tutorials and taking notes... so where might i find frame snapping?

You shouldn't watch and take notes, you should be mimicking/following along/replicating.

As in, see the tutor do something, then pause the video and do it yourself, then resume the video until he/she/they does/do something else, then pause the video and do that too, and so on.

In the Timeline at the right, there's a cog/gear icon (labelled "Tools" if you hover your mouse over it). To the left of that is a "Mute" button, and to the left of that is a "Play Once" button, and to the left of that is a "Snap Frame" button, and to the left of that is a "Snap" button, and to the left of that is a "Toggle Playhead Locked" button.

The "Snap Frame" and/or "Snap" buttons are what I'm talking about. They're enabled by default, and make it so that when you drag clips around in the Clip Editor or the Playhead (time cursor) around in any editor, they will be snapped to every frame of the session. You can use this to very easily make multiple sound clips start at the same frame.

oh yeah, I've got the program up and am doing that as well. just jotting things down so I can remember the keys and such, lol. (also it makes me happy that u included "they" and not just he/she. kudos.)

got it! thanks so much for your help.
