Report a translation problem
The model will be trying to call a material that it can't find, because any missing material causes the "Add Override Materials" function to abort when it gets to it.
You'll need to use something like Crowbar's "view" function to find out what materials its expecting to be there (as I recall, HLMV will just say "missing materials" and not tell you what they are) and then create at least a placeholder for any missing materials.
the model itself is fine no black and pink checkerboards
(There are theoretically other problems that could cause it, but this is by far the most common).

The Eyes will not work, the model's eye flex controller for the view target is not set up.
