Graphics Cards and SFM
Now, I've seen this topic being discussed across the forms, but I haven't been able to find a straight forward answer.

When I open Source Filmmaker, I get this message:

“Your graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements to run the SFM. You need a graphics card that supports at least DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.0.”

I'll be as detailed and thorough as I can. So, I recently got a new computer:

HP Pavilion Desktop PC
[Intel Core i5-7400 Processor]
[Graphics Card: Intel® HD Graphics 630]
This card supports DirectX 12, which in turn supports Shader Model 5.1.
I’ve verified that my version of DirectX is DirectX 12 through the DirectX Diagnostic Tool
I’ve verified that my drivers are updated and that there are no problems being found.

So, in theory, SFM shouldn’t be having an issue with the card, but it is. So, I ask.

Does my DirectX HAVE to be specifically 9 with the 3.0 Shader Model for SFM to recognize it?

Do I need a different card like Nivida (or any any similar graphics card)?

Or, given the presence of DirectX 12 and the 5.1 Shader Model, is the issue that SFM isn’t registering the version I’m using?

Any help is appreciated.

This problem is common with the Intel HD Graphics cards, to be honest, I'm not entirely sure why, but it usually stems from how they handle Shader Model. They just don't 'play nice' with SFM.., at all.
You need an Nvidia or AMD card for best results.

Source Filmmaker has some very "interesting" relationships with Intel's graphics chips. Long ago, many of Intel's graphics chips were unsupported. VALVe then released an update that made Source Filmmaker "recognize" the capabilities of some of Intel's graphic chips correctly, making some of them compatible (while incompatible other ones remained incompatible).

However, this is not anything automatic, and thus Source Filmmaker doesn't like later-released Intel graphic chips, regardless of whether or not they actually do what Source Filmmaker needs them to do. And Source Filmmaker was last updated the 12th of January 2015 (far over 3.5 years ago by now), so don't expect a new update from VALVe to "fix" that for newer Intel graphic chips.

All I can suggest is to update your graphic drivers followed by rebooting your computer, and/or to check if your computer additionally has an NVIDIA/AMD GPU that Source Filmmaker may be able to use instead.

Zappy, which intel graphics cards can SFM run?

Facetious answer: None, they're GPUs not graphics cards.

Honest answer: We don't know.

Valve's patch notes just occasionally mention something vague about adding support for Intel GPUs, but it never mentions exactly what support or what GPUs, so we'd only know by people with those specific models a) not having another GPU, b) noticing that things were running fine on their Intel GPU, c) telling us and d) someone caring enough to write it down, which isn't really very useful information anyway. (As there's no point in using it for advice to people with the problem, as the answer would still be "get a different laptop", except now it would be "get an older and generally less good laptop").

All of which means we have no useful list.

Either get Nvidia GeFornce 1080 Ti or idk get AMD GPU thats for workstations i mean AMD has amazing performance for gaming and their workstation systems are impresive so why not get AMD then doenst have to be exspensive stuff just get right one cheaper better
