Why use SFMlabs
this may have been discussed before but...
what is the benefit to uploading models to SFMLabs rather than the workshop?

Firstly, you don’t have to worry about limited cloud storage like Steam workshop has. Upload as many and big as you want. Secondly, perfect place to share your NSFW models because Steam workshop forbids NSFW mods whatsoever.

SFMLab is also less strict about how content is organised. The Workshop will only allow specific file types to be uploaded to specific categories, and some file types not at all*.
On SFMLab, you can easily package together a model, its scripts and source files in one item rather than having to send the user off to several places.

As one for both the pro and con category - updates aren't automatic. It means that an update can't automatically break a user's session (and if it does, they can go to the change log and get the older download - not possible with the workshop), but also that they don't get the updates unless they go back and check.
(Similarly, a copyright claim won't ruin user's projects).

SFMLab also allows users to sort by "recently updated", so if you update something a month or so on, you may actually get more attention for the project rather than it just being missed because it's too old to make it to the "recently popular" list.
(Such a feature would actually help clean up the workshop a lot, rather than people reposting slightly updated versions as new items).

It allows users more control over content management. Rather than everything ending up in a big vat of "Workshop", they can easily install things in neatly organised mod folders (assuming they don't make the catastrophic mistake of just putting it all in usermod, anyway).

* Not under the "model" category, but SFMLab can also share things like helpful programs and plug-ins.
