The End of SFM?
SFM lab has this up on their banner

https://imgur.com/a/CEH4ia8

"The European union is working on legislation that has the potential to break SFMlab, and the rest of the internet as we know it. These new laws would require SFM and other websites to implement like Youtube's Content ID, which automatically scans for copyright content, and restrict access by country or license..."

To be honest, i'm not sure how i feel about this. If the Content ID systems they implement were independently organized, we could see the total and absolute end to SFM as a creative medium.

On the flip-side, if it were a singular system analogous to Content ID, we would see roughly the same behavior that occurs on YouTube...people use copyright stuff, it gets ID'd, ads go up and life goes on for everybody. The problem however arises with...how does hat even become implemented... Ads appearing on workshop items? That seems ridiculous to me. The only feasible way would be for the ID system to automatically just take it down, checking first for a license from the creators of said IP.

Thoughts?

If the governments of the EU ban OpenSource programs and memes, I don't know HOW they will ba able to enforce it I mean every coffee house and all the backyard vendors there are in Europe selling CDs, DVDs and Computer Programs, their jails won't hold the number of ppl they will have to throw in to them. (at least that's the way it was when I as in Europe and we all know that the labels on authentically released material are not made from ink jet printers and cut up A4 paper, nor do they have the program Key saved as a text file on the install disk.)

Anyway, what that ad on SFMLabs is referring to is one of the articles recently put out like this one by PCgamer... https://www.pcgamer.com/eu-votes-on-copyright-law-that-could-kill-memes-and-open-source-software/ ... if anyone is interested.

Lmao watch how fast their jails overflow at the count of porn animators.
I doubt it'll be the end. Many are still getting into it and there are people who want to master it (such as myself). How is it going to affect the non EU, US side of SFM though?

let's not think about how many people or porn or punishment. technically it's not gonna work i assume. this automatic filter thing they wanna do will never be implemented. it's the platform that gotta pay for the filter system. if they can't this' not gonna happen. not to enforce a stupid regulation on paper. they can't globally enforce this and close websites. youtube did it cause it is global and it's just pictures and audio to filter, which are easy. models can't be filtered at all tho. neither is there a definition when a model is a modification. tryna work around this by asking the authors is more office bull too. i mean soft credits on ports always worked. no big deal this digital game asset copyright is. no need for any gov input aka mess with this. no profit to be made, just costs. lol

I mean, if they some-how found a way to monetize on random websites by throwing up ads on things that have the content ID (ads on workshop items lol) then the companies that own the IP would be making money via ad revenue. So it's not a total loss...

Cost though? I mean it not only sounds like a logistical nightmare....but the cost would be so astronomical to even consider enforcing it, that it would create an industry dedicated to just dealing with disputes...

But we all know how "disputes" are handled on Youtube...it's utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

yeh. i'm not a huge fan of the ad industry. i don't care if they could make pennies from that, i'd rather not like to see random ad crap plastered on eeevvveeerrryytttthhhiiinnnggg. D:

those ads that make sense are predictably just those of the websites base content or the game or brand the model is from, which the model itself is ad enough, you know?!? this whole thing doesn't hold a lot of value but added randomness for what the heck ever.
