Since SFM was last updated, Quicktime became defunct, meaning that its major security flaws will never be patched, making it a risk to have on your computer.
The official advice from both Apple and the US Government's cybersecurity division is to not have it installed.
(Also, quite aside from that, it exports with bad contrast, the quality is poor and it isn't particularly reliable).
All video rendering should be done as image sequences.
When you export like this, it will create a lot of individual image files (so exporting each video to a folder of its own is a good idea), and a sound file if you opted for that.
Then you can use almost any video editor (besides Windows (Live) Movie Maker) to import the images and sound file, set up the image framerate correctly, and export it as a video with nice compression and quality. (Unlike from within Source FilmMaker, it's usually okay to export the video as an AVI/MP4/MOV from a video editor.)
A guide on doing this using Blender can be found below, but again, almost any video editor will do, so if you prefer something else, feel free to use something else.
It might just be useful to know how to do it with Blender, as Blender can also be useful for other things in some cases, so you don't have to have many different programs for different things.
