PNG is probably what many people (including me) use (as PNG images are widely supported by many things and is also losslessly-compressed, meaning it keeps all the detail without the filesize being as huge as if it was uncompressed).
PNG is a reliable, widely supported lossless format that will make it possible to a straight assembly and compression of your final video with no additional image artefacts or loss of detail.
PFM however has the monopoly on quality, as this exports in 32bpc colour, allowing you to colour correct and post-process to your heart's content.
The filesize is however, obviously, much larger, and the additional quality is only really of merit for post-processing, as you will eventually probably need to compress down to 8bpc for most video formats and hardware.
(It's also not supported by most software).
Very powerful though - I colour corrected this: https://sta.sh/01zsq60ppdmx
into this:

with no loss of final quality.
(I assume you mean "export", but if you do mean "import"... in SFM, no. In anything else... well, what exactly?)
