DirectX 9.0 Shaders Model
It says that my graphics card doesn't have DX9 Shader Model 3.0, and that my graphics card doesnt meet the minimum requirements some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like that. In fact, this whole thing is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because i have directx 11, and a 900 series card, as if THAT isnt enough. Funny, it used to work before but for some reason now it doesn't. I've tried everything, from using the context menu and right clicking SFM to start with "NVidia High Performance Processor", uninstalling all of my drivers and reinstalling them, uninstalling and reinstalling SFM, and other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like trying to uninstall Intel's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ass graphics driver, except when i do that, it turns off my display. If anyone has a solution to this, please help.

You may be angry, but we're just the community - we're in no way responsible for whatever problem you're having.

We already get a lot of this kind of thing and it gets really wearing after a while, to the point that I actually nearly closed the thread and left. (Honestly, sweary threads don't do themselves any favours).

Funny, it used to work before but for some reason now it doesn't.
When did the problem start? Could it be the result of some change you've made on the system or an updated driver? (e.g. if you have automatic driver updates set up).

I've tried everything
The sarcastic answer would be "then we can't help you".

"I've tried everything" isn't helpful information for us - it's patently not true, and therefore pretty useless. You might have tried everything you could think of or find on a websearch, but we're not mindreaders - we don't know what you haven't thought of.

I mean, for example, I don't know if you've tried disabling the Intel graphics at the BIOS level, or what happened if you did.

As much of a nuisance as it might be, you need to tell us in detail.

sorry for the profanity and all, its just that it started doing this out of no where and i have no actual way of tracing it to the root of what caused this. I looked at other discussions/threads where they have a similar problem too, and most of them that complained didnt even have a dedicated graphics card to begin with which doesnt make sense because of course, integrated graphics wont't work. So i thought i was the only one who had this problem...

Anyways...

i tried disabling the intel graphics through device manager but as said earlier, it would shut off my display. I tried using my BIOS to do it, but it doesnt have any settings for any onboard devices, in fact it doesnt even have any advanced options either.

Source Filmmaker might simply be incorrectly using the Intel "GPU" instead of the NVIDIA one.

Press the Windows key, and search for and open "NVIDIA Control Panel". (Alternatively, find it in Windows' normal Control Panel.)

Click "3D Settings" > "Adjust image settings with preview" on the left, then choose the "Use the advanced 3D image settings" option in the middle.

Click "3D Settings" > "Manage 3D settings" on the left, and switch to the "Program settings" tab in the middle.

Beside the first drop-down list ("Select a program to customize"), click "Add", select Source Filmmaker (sfm.exe), and click "Add Selected Program".
(If you can't find Source Filmmaker in the program-adding list, try to close the NVIDIA Control Panel, boot up and close Source Filmmaker, and try again. If you still can't find it, check the first drop-down list (the one beside the first "Add" button) and look for it there, then just select it.)

With Source Filmmaker (sfm.exe) selected in the first drop-down list, set the second drop-down list ("Select the preferred graphics processor for this program") to "High-performance NVIDIA processor".

Lastly, click "Apply" in the bottom-right corner of the NVIDIA Control Panel, and reboot Source Filmmaker.

After doing that I got the same message. Is there a way that I could download the DirectX drivers? The only one I was able to find was DirectX 9.0 but the installer said I already had it.

Please click "Windows" > "Console" at the top-left of Source FilmMaker, type "clear" into the console, hit Enter to clear it, type "mat_info" into it, hit Enter to execute that too, and then copy and paste the first 10 or so lines at the top of the console here. For example, I might see this:
ShaderAPI: shaderapidx9.dll Shader API Driver Info: Driver : nvldumd.dll Version : 860781 Driver Description : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 Chipset version 4318 5058 829494370 161 Display mode : 1920 x 1080 @60Hz (BGRX8888) Vertex Shader Version : 3.0 Pixel Shader Version : 3.0

Source Filmmaker uses DirectX 9, and I believe Steam itself should make sure you have that when you try to run something that uses DirectX 9, so if something tells you that you already have it, you probably do, and there's not much you have to do afterwards about it.

this is not about dx software/'drivers'. it's an issue with directx detecting the default display adapter (commonly setup using the adapter 0 in dx10/11) to render the stuff. on switchable adapters the graphics drivers/control panels set this defaults or you do it manually.

to add. have you tried to set steam and the services to nvidia in the control panel? this could be the last possible thing to not detect and spawn the sfm process with the nvidia card on the commandline and internally.

I added steam bootstrapper to the control pannel, still not working
episoder Apr 9, 2018 @ 12:27pm
try the steam exe and the steamservice exe, if they are not already in there. they should be in there and set to global default and using the nvidia chip automaticly chosen. i dunno tho. i can only try to make you replicate my settings. i have a similar setup. 5200u 5500igp and 940 ddr3. i have windows 10 tho. i'm not sure if those shared graphics procedures are the same on 7 and 10.

plus. do you have option to upgrade the intel graphics driver or the nvidia driver to latest versions?

again... i'm not sure how much the OS management is involved making this work, maybe.

It says that my drivers are up to date
episoder Apr 9, 2018 @ 1:01pm
okay. maybe you could boot in safe mode. refer to a manual for your laptop brand to figure out how. then uninstall the intel graphics. it should install or use the default vga driver for the display to stay on, then. on reboot it should reroute all graphics to the dedicated card. it's a half dead solution tho. you'd loose the igp for quick video de- and en-coding. ugh.

i have no other ideas. i'm not on this old platform. do you have an option to upgrade to win10? maybe it could work on that, and the switchable solution there. i dunno. mine is older and stable.

'm out
