Valve only ever made SFM so their animation team could create game trailers. The public release was generous, but was never what the program was designed for.
Valve now have next to nothing to promote on the Source 1 engine (and SFM works well enough for any few last things they might need to promote, such as TF2 updates), so it's almost certain that no further development is going to be carried out.
SFM actually works very well - it's just got a very poor instruction manual and next to no safeguards to stop you doing stupid things.
Once you know what not to touch, I get far fewer crashes out of SFM than I do either Blender or Daz Studio (which are actually in active development).
Also, great joke comparing SFM to garbage.
But still, it really sucks that Valve abandon it. Unless they're considering turning SFM into a paid software, they might support it fully but it won't happen.
You will have to do like the rest of us and learn to live with it's quirks.
If you just can't seem to force yourself to do that, then the best advice I can give is to just get rid of SFM and find something else to do with your spare time... lol
