Legate lanius[GMOD] to [SFM]
So I installed a player model for gmod and then extracted the models and materials folder to a custom folder in sfm. When I did this before with NPCs it worked fine, but for some reason PMs don't seem to work correctly, namely the models folder doesn't load but materials does.

Model in question : https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1401013689

If anyone knows how to identify the issue, that would be ideal.

This model is not packed properly for SFM, which sometimes does happen when porting from gmod to SFM.

The only way that I can see to fix this is to decompile the model and recompile it so that it's compatible with SFM.

I've been using a website to installs the models from the workshop directly to my downloads folder. And it automatically unpacks it for winrar. But there is an option to install it without unpacking.

I'm familiar with this site, and I'll keep my opinions of it to myself.

Regardless, models in gmod are not held to as strict a file structure as they are in SFM.
Because of this, some authors get a bit lazy in how the pack the model into it's files. This is fine for gmod, as it can find everything that it needs to make the model work, regardless of where it's located. SFM, however, cannot.

The files have to conform to a specific and rather binding system in order for them to work properly in SFM. If a model has been rather lazily assembled in it's file system, then it usually breaks in SFM, requiring that the model be decompiled and the 'laziness' corrected.

So that means I can't use the model?

Not necessarily, it just means that you'll have to do some work on it before you can use it.

You don't need Blender for this, all you need is Crowbar.
I don't know if there is a tutorial that specifically shows how to repair a model, but there are guides on how to use Crowbar and to be honest, it's really not that hard.
