Multiple colors of the same model? (Ninjaripper/Noesis extracting)
I've been exporting models via NinjaRipper and viewing them in Noesis all day long and upon reviewing my MESH files of the models, I noticed that there are different colors(white, red, and blackish) of the same model- I've never done this before and wanted to know what those are for. I heard that these are "UV" layers, but I'm unsure of which ones to port into blender or if I should be combining all of the versions together? Please help, thank you!

This multicolor theme is also within my texture files. I just don't know what I'm supposed to use!

From my experience, the ones that are solid colors in Noesis almost always have broken UV maps. These meshes usually refer to one of the "junk" textures that NinjaRipper generates. The good mesh will have the correct texture visible in Noesis, though sometimes they are scaled or flipped. Not sure how you would go about this on Windows, but on Linux I can use grep[man7.org] to find which models use which textures and this makes the whole process significantly less painful. This way I can sort out most of the broken ones from the good ones.

FYI, if you are exporting as an SMD you will need to check the "flip UV's" option, or do it manually in your 3D modeling program.

Does this mean that the solid white/red ones are junk meshes and I should use the "shiny" Blackish ones?

Is this the same for texture files? Should I stick to the "correctly" colored ones or go with the all red/etc?

Thank you so much for your help!

One of those colors means it couldn't find the texture that went with it, so it gave it a default which is one of the junk textures. The other colors mean something else, but they all have bad UV data which makes them useless. The only ones that are really usable will show their corresponding texture on them in Noesis. Don't use any of the ones that are solid colors, unless the texture in-game happens to be one of those colors (which is most likely not the case).

I have yet to see NR pull a corrupt texture that actually corresponded to a model. The junk textures are ones you will get almost every time, though they may vary slightly on different engines. It's fairly easy to tell them apart from the good ones just because they don't actually look like textures and more like pictures with blocks of solid color. Of course, you can open the textures up and see for yourself.
