you have 65 hours, you've studied poster making yeah?
Try 512x512.

Good luck!

That depends on the texture format and spray intentions.

Did you just import the file SFM gave you? Or did you turn it into a JPEG or PNG?

it's been a while i did a spray. i did a ninja decal in neotokyo x). isn't it that the resolution influences the size of it? a 512x512 is 3 meters large. am i right?

No, a 1x1 spray is just a big on a wall as an 8x8 or a 1024x1024 spray.

okay. i didn't really know that. it might be a weird idea to implement a graffiti scale. in 512k it could be a max of 3 by 1.5 meters in old native mapscale. could maybe add a 'spend time' penalty for spraying a large one. but...

that is upto valve and how relevant it is for game/spray mechanics.

I rendered the poster when it was done, Chose .PNG, Didn't show when chosing a spray in tf2, Changed it's file type to .jpg, It showed, But it said the image file was corrupt.

What is the maximum resolution it will take?

That depends on the spray. RGBA16161616-formatted VTFs with mip-maps and multiple frames fill a lot more filesize-wise than DXT1-formatted VTFs with a single frame and without mip-maps, and sprays are limited filesize-wise, not resolution-wise.

512x512 for TF2, 256x256 for most of other Source Engine games.

DTX1, or DTX5 if it use alpha channel, DTX compression is horrible to be honest but RGBA don't always work.

There's no resolution limits, but the image will be resized at x512 or x256 depending the game, so there's no need to go higher.

Importing it via the game don't always work (conversion may fail) the safest way is to turn the pic into a .vtf and then import it.

Actually there is a way to make 1024 x 1020 sprays, but it takes a few complicated steps that requires you to download a couple of external programs.

Here's a reddit thread that links to someone who made their own site that let's you create such sprays: https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/5e9p01/hd_vtf_spray_converter/?st=jdhxmugp&sh=0d09344e

Simply upload your image and convert it. It'll just be under the 512MB restriction by 1MB.
