Good luck!
Alright.
Did you just import the file SFM gave you? Or did you turn it into a JPEG or PNG?
that is upto valve and how relevant it is for game/spray mechanics.
I rendered the poster when it was done, Chose .PNG, Didn't show when chosing a spray in tf2, Changed it's file type to .jpg, It showed, But it said the image file was corrupt.
DTX1, or DTX5 if it use alpha channel, DTX compression is horrible to be honest but RGBA don't always work.
There's no resolution limits, but the image will be resized at x512 or x256 depending the game, so there's no need to go higher.
Importing it via the game don't always work (conversion may fail) the safest way is to turn the pic into a .vtf and then import it.
Here's a reddit thread that links to someone who made their own site that let's you create such sprays: https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/5e9p01/hd_vtf_spray_converter/?st=jdhxmugp&sh=0d09344e
Simply upload your image and convert it. It'll just be under the 512MB restriction by 1MB.
