Also, the answer partly depends on what models you're prepared to use. Some people refuse to use major characters like Lara Croft, Hitomi, Max Payne, etc as anyone other than themselves, but that seriously limits your choices (after all, the more popular characters are generally the most likely to get ported).
I personally find that a slightly odd viewpoint, given we're perfectly prepared to accept that Jack Dawson from Titanic and Dominic Cobb from Inception are entirely different characters, despite the fact they both look like Leonardo DiCaprio.
(That said, models can easily be "head-hacked" and given material overrides to make them less recognisable).
