Blood stains?
I often see in artwork models with blood stains on them. What i mean is how there are blood stains on the clothing of the characters around a would or somthing. I know that you can use particle effects to make those effects but what i see doesnt appear to be partical effects. Am i wrong? or is there another way to make blood stains on characters without having to make a brand new model or somthing.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=291500222 This guide will walk you through using override materials to change a used texture on a model, as well as editing a texture to be used that way (although it doesn't cover specifically blood stains). Additionally, a few of the HWM models come with skins with blood splatters on them already.

Can you use the override during animating? I was thinking of something that can be used in the process of animating, and is not something that you just add to a model's skin. The animation called double edged Defence uses a lot of it. Did you likely use override or something else.

Override materials are model-specific and shot-specific. This means you can use multiple models in the same shot using different textures and swap them around instantly within a shot, or "blade" the shot (cut a shot into two shots) and change the texture of the override materials within the second shot only.

If you don't want to use material overrides, I guess the next thing you could do is make a model that has that particular texture you want to use and do some really complicated SFM trickery to not resort to material overrides.

There are also model decals in the workshop for blood/bullet holes. You can also create decals in Hammer and place them on walls, like blood stains, graffiti etc.
