How to make things not shiny? SFM Noob over here
hello guys im new in sfm stuff and i have no issues animating, but i have a lot, A LOT of issues with textures and reflections in a lot of models that makes the videos i make...ugly...so im making a animation with some EA BATTLEFRONT 2 clone troopers but they look shiny like a mirrior.... they were suppoused to appear from the shadows but the shinyness of the armors kinda ruins everything... so how can i disable the shiny of the armor...? and before you guys said, yes i already use $phongboost and no, it didnt work...

Disable the phong by adding comment "//" in front of the parameters. Example
// $phong // $phongboost

In the VMT file of the texture of course. I assume you already know about this judging by your post about knowing about $phongboost.

Try setting $EnvMapTint to 0 (either through an override material within Source FilmMaker, or by editing the VMT material file using a text editor). If that doesn't fix it, one or more screenshots would probably be beneficial for us.

Considering phong needs light and you said the model is to appear from shadows, it's likely that the environment map is the issue you're having, in which case the above should fix it.

Phong is required for ambient occlusion and some other stuff. I highly recommend setting $PhongBoost (and sometimes $RimBoost) to 0 rather than disabling $Phong. (I have experienced once where I had to disable phong completely to get rid of some shininess, I have to say, but only once.)
