Crowbar troubles
Heyo, so im trying to fix a transparent model, and it calls for a lil' use of crowbar. My only problem is compiling my edited .qc file, the only "game that has model compiler" for me is Left 4 Dead 2. It errors out when I try compiling there and says:

Possible causes: The game's SDK or Authoring Tools has not been installed (usually via Steam Library Tools)

As I am a dumb baby boy idk anything about this. In the tutorial im atching on how to fix the model, they have SFM as a "game that has model compiler". Any help would be appreciated! :tgrin:

You absolutely should be able to use SFM's model compiler with Crowbar, but you may have to configure the filepath of SFM and its StudioMDL compiler. (Bear in mind that in compile mode, Crowbar simply acts as an interface for Valve's own StudioMDL compiler, which is a rather user-unfriendly command line tool).

This configuration problem is most commonly caused by having SFM installed in a non-standard location - for example, I have my SFM installed on my computer's E:/ drive, but the default configuration for Crowbar is looking for SFM on the C:/ drive.

If possible, you should avoid using other games' compilers - SFM's compiler is optimised for SFM, so models intended for SFM may not recompile correctly if you use another version of StudioMDL.

Thanks for answering my post my man, I’ll look up how to configure SFM for it, hopefully I’ll find something on how to do it. My SFM is on my C:/ drive so I don’t think that’s messing it up.

I'm not sure about the latest version of Crowbar, but in the version I have, the default path for Source FilmMaker is E:/Users/ZeqMacaw/Steam/steamapps/common/SourceFilmmaker, which only very, very, very few people (perhaps even only 1 person) have Source FilmMaker installed at.

Ah, yes - I knew I needed to set the path whenever I updated it, but had forgotten that this was more because of an outright odd SFM path by default, rather than my slightly unusual one.

Cool, sorry for asking but where do I go to edit the path? I've never delved into anything like that.

In the latest version of Crowbar (0.49), the "Set Up Games" button immediately to the right of the drop-down "Game that has the model compiler" menu.

The paths for each of the things it wants will usually be (although this depends on your version of Windows and your Steam install location):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\usermod\gameinfo.txt
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\sfm.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\bin\studiomdl.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\bin\hlmv.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\bin\hammer.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\bin\vpk.exe
