How to make certain areas or parts of the map darker or really dark shadows?
so im currently making a video where some troops appear after a blast dor opens, and i want the room behind the blast door (where the troops appear) to be completly dark, where the troops are only seen when the step out of the room, so how can i achieve such a effect? kinda like the scene on star wars where the stroomtroopers appear threw a dark room...but...more dramatic

decompile the map. open hammer. remove the lights from the room behind the door. you may have to rebalance the lights that shines 'into' the door and room. remove the light transmission. you could also reduce bounces (expert mode :). that lowers general ambient light spreads. or...

forced method is to put a blocklight brush in the door frame. you may have to put a xtra light into your sfm scene to give the sharp lightmap edges a smoother gradient. you also need a good intensity and distance balance to fix the abrupt ambient cube transition. a lil nasty. the other techniques is easier.

... including using your account to upload SFM art and ask questions about a similar problem?

(I would point out that's actually against the Steam Subscriber agreement, he really should have made his own account).

No witch-hunting (I have no intention of reporting it), but I'd still advise it's best to not publicly admit to breaking the rules!

i didnt realize he ask question in here, but you expect me to be on his shoulder every second hes on my pc? i have my pc and my xbox on different rooms so what do you expect me to do about it? do you want me to hit him with a belt on his butt for doing so? what do you expect him to know about Subscriber agreement of something he naver had an account for...? besides...is not like hes playing overwatch for me...hes just using an animation tool...i dont see any way to cheat in an animation tool....

It's not that he has used your account, it's about you having let him. Valve expect you to know the agreement.

It's not about cheating, it's about the fact that Steam is a sales platform. In many jurisdictions, that kind of thing causes a lot of problems.

i dont really get the issue of letting your younger cousin use your pc to play a free animation software, is not like the pc is going to blow beacuse of that...

and what exactly letting your cousin use a free app affects the sales platform? what kind of issues causes? cause i cant think of anything that using a free software can harm someone...the oppsite...i actually give them another wallet...he ws tired of using my pc and my account...(i cant tell the resons why) but he went out of his way to buy a pc, and create a steam account and buy games from him..so yeah i affect steam...in a positive way...

yes...but is a huge difference between an account like steam and a facebook account...i dont care if my mom uses my steam account but i will be very much affraid of what my mom can found on my facebook...

i dont really see the reason to put the "Subscriber agreement" thingy place here...if youre going to give me a tip or a solution to this issue, feel free to put it in the comments...if not just dont comment at all...my sound harsh to hear but is the true and many people think the same way...

Came here looking for answers, instead found quite possibly the funniest pointless argument I've seen in a while
