-/SourceFilmmaker/game/platform/cfg/sfm_defaultanimationgroups.txt will show up in the "Unknown" group by default, not the "Body", "Arms", "Legs", et cetera groups. In addition, IK-rigging scripts and such are normally based on bone names, so if your bone set-up is right, but with weird bone names, IK-rigging scripts might not work despite working with other bone names (such as the bip_X format).
TL;DR: No, but it's sort of recommended.
