Need help with textures
So i noticed that all the textures in sfm are low res......even tho they shouldn't be.
btw mat_picmip is set to -10.
here's an example:

it's really annoying and i hope someone here has some answers, I've searched everywhere for a fix but no dice.

I'm not quite sure, but I think the Sniper class emblem in that screenshot/render is actually at the highest resolution of the texture available by default, and it's kind of hard to tell if any of the other textures are of non-highest quality.

i checked the other classes (hwm) and they also have tge same problem

it's not just the hwm but also every cosmetic and weapon.
also from what i've seen ports of the hwm don't have this problem.

Then please show a screenshot where it's much more obvious that it's not as detailed as it should be.

Then please compare side-by-side the "HWM" Soldier, Pyro, Demoman, Heavy, Engineer, Medic, or Spy (not Scout or Soldier) (as in two versions of the same class, not the different classes compared to each other), and show a screenshot of that if possible.

I loaded up the HWM Sniper myself - not seeing anything particularly different about your textures: https://imgur.com/vT6KKtk

In any case, yours certainly aren't what happens if you set SFM to use the lowest possible textures: https://imgur.com/c6h681P

looks like everyones textures are that low res

picmip is set to -10 meaning that it should be useing the higest textures possible.

i checked the one from the game and they're both the same texture whise
(from what i've seen everyones textures look the same)

Which, judging by the screenshot you showed, it is.

If you're saying it looks like it does for most people, what's the problem?

I have time to wait, though, and it's always better to see it from your perspective as opposed to most likely finding a wrong "perspective" myself.

Edit: Specifically, the first result I found from searching for "TF2 HWM Port" explicitly said it had user-made higher-resolution textures than default, and is as such invalid for this comparison.

Yes, and that's exactly what I had in the first picture. The textures for the HWM models aren't particularly high resolution. If I blow the original texture file up to the same size, then it looks pretty much the same: https://imgur.com/xXn1Wvg

(Photoshop won't be using exactly the same resizing algorithm as SFM, so don't expect them to look identical).

There is no more resolution to be had, regardless of what mat_picmip is set to.

i thought the problem was from my end. and thought that ppl didn't have this problem. but it looks like this isn't a problem and it might just be that vlave dosn't have higher res textures (tho i dout that)
p.s i would like to know if your hwm also have low res textures.( if yours also do then the textures for everyone are that low res)

well that explains why the have way higer res textures (that was my second guess as to why they has higer res textures. i guess i just didn't want to belive that valve would leave us with crappy textures)

When I made my first comment on this thread, it was after doing the same "experiment" as Marco Skoll (with comparing the actual texture file to the screenshot, comparing the texture "fidelity"), which you can see the result of in comment #9 of this thread.

That is *exactly* what I've just posted pictures of. The default HWM sniper, at maximum quality, minimum quality and a comparison to the original texture files.

Your sniper looks the same as the one I have installed (which is absolutely slap bang default, I've never upgraded my TF2 content in SFM), and if it somehow looked better, then you would have to have installed better textures, because there's no more resolution in the original textures.

That texture is only 1024x2048, if you get close up on small parts of it, then yes, it will look pixelated.

Not to mention the class emblem of it is just scaled up from the default 1024x512 texture used in Team Fortress 2, meaning the class emblem is basically of half the horizontal and vertical resolution as the rest of the texture.

i saw the comparison (and i made that comparison on my own to check) and i guess i just thought that i only had this problem (witch turns out it isn't a problem).
