[TECHNICAL] Possible to Import SFM Models and Assets (Props, Maps, Session (.dmx) Files) into Daz Studio?
Hello everyone.

I find the best thing about fiddling around with 3D software is the ability to push boundaries and create things that are quite unique from their originals. Well, as some of you may know, I prefer to make MLP-related content in SFM. However, lately I've been researching Daz3D and its program Daz Studio. Seems to be a bit "better" than SFM, so I was wondering if I can make stuff with it using SFM assets?

Which leads to my main question: Is it possible to import SFM models, props, maps, or session files into Daz Studio? If you choose to reply, please be as detailed as possible. I don't mind reading paragraphs of text. Especially if it's extremely informative. I thank all that reply and provide answers.

I had a look at the website, and while the software looks impressive, I got the impression that you cannot import Source Engine assets into it without first converting them to a different format than the Source format.
There seems to be a way to import models from Blender, though I didn't read into it a lot, but if this is possible then you could use SFM models in it, after importing them into Blender and then exporting them in a format that DAZ can then use, but as for a direct import? It doesn't appear possible...
As to the maps, I don't think that is possible at all, same for the session files (.dmx).

I wasn't looking for a "direct" port, actually. Maybe I didn't make that clear enough. My mistake. No; rather, I was just trying to see if it's possible, through numerous conversions or whatever, to use SFM assets in Daz Studio. I'm prepared for A LOT of explanation and techno-babble, which is why I labeled this inquiry with [TECHNICAL].

I appreciate you trying to help though.

Well, that being said, Blender can export in several formats, one mentioned in my reading was .fbx, so I'd say that if you get a Source asset into Blender, and export it as an .fbx, as an example, then yeah, you should be able to use it in DAZ.., if I read the documentation right.

Like I said, I just basically "breezed" over it, so there is probably some stuff that I overlooked, but this was the impression that I got from what I read.

This is what I'm hoping. I'm hoping through conversion, I can do it. Daz just seems to have a slight better quality to renders than SFM. Only real reason I want to switch.

About all I can say is to give it a try and see what happens, it'll either work or it won't... lol

i expected it would be hard but i doubt if on daz studio is worthy to import files i woudl rather import from daz studio to blender blender just saw and first step of use was awsome to see the unlimited posibilites there unlike daz studio not to mention how hard it is for third party files to add there
