How to do I edit a Map in Hammer?
Hello there,

I've got a 67thway winter map to load in Hammer and I would like to delete alot of the map leave the bit I need for SFM, I would like to probably delete most of the Map and leave the Underground intact.

I've only used Hammer for adding HDR to BSP maps for SFM so I don't know anything about Hammer.

Then you might want to have a look at this before you mess something up that you can't fix:

to quickly limit the amount of the map to compile you could compile using the cordon tool surrounding the area you wanna use.

So can I remove the Maps Wireframes ect or are they set in stone? I've tried using the Cordon Tool it really help me target an area I only wanted showing up.

You can remove just about anything that you want from within Hammer, depending on what it is, and how the map was constructed, you might break something just randomly removing stuff that doesn't suit you, so be careful what you remove...

Like a Gmod BSP file map converted into a VTF file?

VTFs are texture files, I think you may have been referring to the VMF, which is basically a raw mapfile...

So can a VMF map file be edited?
episoder Aug 25, 2017 @ 6:41am
ofc it can be edited. that's the whole purpose of this file and hammer. you still gotta know what you hammer, remove and change. the basic mapping workflow. core concepts, optimizations and all that. and you gotta know how to compile this file, to get a working, good and fast result bsp.

that's a bit of a deal. usually the first error that comes up when deleting things / messing up a file is a leak and a thread about how to close it. we don't like to repeat to explain it.

Does optimisations really matter when I just want to delete alot of the map and leave one long hallway and remove it's lights? I'm only using it for SFM.

Seems like you need to do so much for something so simple.

As long as Hammer doesn't report a "leak", you should be good to go...

Well I deleted about 80% of the map and tried to do (Run map, HDR Ticked, don't run game while compiling, preset Fast) and these came up probably a Leak right?
