The SFM workshop existed for a reason you know and there are more websites that share SFM models and maps out there.
Also, go to here to get started,

But for a list of asset sites in a roughly descending list of the order I check them usefulness:
- The SFM workshop
Because of the integration, the installation process is very simple.
- SFMLab.
Although primarily a NSFW site, that's hidden unless you log in and set it visible, and it has a lot of very useful SFW stuff too.
- Garry's Mod workshop.
If you have GMod, it's easy to transfer things. If you don't have GMod, it's well worth picking up on sale just for for access to the workshop.
Generally best for maps, vehicles and props, as GMOD characters often don't come with the same level of faceposing.
- Garrysmod.org
Worth a look at times, although many things will also be on the GMod workshop.
- GameBanana
It has various assorted Source content.
- DeviantArt.
Although generally better for looking for XNA content, (which is fairly easy to port to SFM), it's occasionally got a few SFM things.
