If you are on a desktop, this is a very simple and quick procedure, if however, you have a laptop, you may be in for some "fun" changing the card, if you can even change it at all.
A lot of laptops use integrated graphics cards that cannot be removed and replaced, therefore forcing you to buy a whole new laptop just to get a better card...
No. Refer to SFM minimum requirement. The GPU should be 2GB minimum.

yes. it's enough for 720p. but depending on the scene load and models you use, you can run out memory real quick. 1 GB is kinda minimum. also make sure you have enough shader cores rather then just looking for a cheap 512 MB card. 256 shader cores and up is kinda required too, to achieve manageable viewport performance.
