I'm going to assume that Capt Fuzzy means that you have to manually update SFM, because, getting anything that has a grade to it (Whether that would be Mercenary or Elite) can only be done by manually updating SFM.

It really is a pain in the backside to do, considering Valve rarely update the content in SFM, people have to do it manually.

I'm going to assume you mean the guide for finding items, if so, do the following:
Right click in the animation set editor
Click on "Create animation set for new model"
And then set your mods at the top to be "TF" when looking for cosmetics
Then search for the cosmetic/s you want.
