Hitfilm is pretty good, bit of a learning curve though.

yeah, besides WMM, hitfilm is the only real free, legal option i'm aware of unless you have a PS3 (which has a basic editor built in)

After my version of Adobe Premiere essentially became obsolete (it only supports a limited and out of date range of video parameters), I swapped to OpenShot.

It's not quite as powerful, but it's free and up to most editing tasks.

I haven't used this specifically for SFM videos, but I think DaVinci Resolve is a pretty good, free video editing software. It looks kind of daunting at first with its professional looking interface, but if you want to do some simple edits to MP4 files, Resolve works fine.

I've also edited SFM videos using AviSynth and VirtualDub.

Lightworks is great in my opinion, however you cant render in 1080 in the free version, only 720, otherwise its really good actually. The only reason I stopped using it was that i wanted 1080p render but there is a problem with premium.

The problem about premium version is that its computer based, not account based. So when you buy it you only have it on the computer that you bought it on, that was the only reason i stopped using it as i didnt take the risk only for 1080p renders.
